St. John’s Medical College, Bangalore started in the year 1963. Catholic Bishops Conference of India gives an idea for establishing a medical college in the garden city, Bangalore. Gradually, St. John’s Medical College arrives in the top medical colleges in the country.  NAAC, a review committee of UGC provided the college and hospital with five star grade, given approvals to offer their own degree and conduct their own admission policies. Student who ranks high is having bright chances to get admission in St. John’s Medical College.

The college offers postgraduate, diploma, graduate and specialization degrees. (RGUHS) Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, Bangalore, affiliates the college. The motto of the college is to train medical professionals, especially for the people who belongs to underserved region of the country. Students from the institute take a pledge to serve such region for at least two years after the graduation. Nearly 25% of total graduate of the college are working permanently in remote areas. Moreover, they are committed to deal with health needs of these underserved rural regions.
Currently, the college has a total strength of 726 students undergoing in Paramedical and Medicine courses. It has total 608 staff members, which includes both teaching and supportive staff. All people employed here are under the payroll of the college and their consistent service is quite encouraging. The alumni and the faculty of the college holds high positions in the field related with health care and medicine.
The high class of research work done by dedicated teaching staff of the college has attain attention of various organization who provide grants to such activities. Presently it has Paraclinical, Super-specialty, Clinical, Preclinical department of the college and the hospital. Biochemistry, Physiology, Anatomy all are under Preclinical department. Pathology, Pharmacology, Microbiology all are under Paraclinical department. Dermatology, General Medicine, Dental Surgery, Ophthalmology all are under Clinical department.
