Stanley Medical College, Chennai
Stanley medical college (SMC) is a state government initiative and it is a hospital cum medical institute. It is located in Chennai, Tamilnadu, India. On 2 July 1938, Stanley medical college was formally established. According to NDTV, SMC secured ninth rank among entire medical colleges located in the country. According to Outlook in the year 2007, Stanley medical college was comfortable in 19th position and according to India Today 2007, it was in the 11 position.
Admission to MBBS course and PG Courses such as MD, MS or higher specialties are done through state and national level medical entrance exams. SMC is one of the most famous and oldest centers in the country. Stanley Medical hospital has three renowned departments. They are Plastic Surgery, Urology and the Institute of Hand Rehabilitation and Surgical Gastroenterology.
Stanley medical hospital provides 1280 beds for the patients for treatment and it is an associate body of Stanley Medical College. Per day about 5000 patients comes to the hospital for the treatment. Stanley medical hospital has a great surgical complex, which can perform 40 surgeries at one time. The hospital also has great treatment facility for patients looking for obstetrics and Gynaecology care.
College provides great lodging and boarding faculties for both male and female students. Male hostel’s have separate dinning and kitchen facilities for UG, PG and house surgeons respectively. College also has great facilities for students interested in sports. It includes turf pitch for playing cricket, two table tennis courts and a basketball ground. The campus of the college looks more beautiful in the presence of green trees and well-maintained garden.
