Lokmanya Tilak Municipal Medical College, Mumbai is the foremost medical college of state Maharashtra. It offers 5.5 years MBBS degree to the students willing to build career in medicine. Admission to this pioneer institute is made via merit list prepared based on marks secured in MHT-CET (Maharashtra Common Entrance Test). Some seats are reserved for backward categories like ST, SC and OBC as per Indian Government norms.
Any candidate willing to take admission in the college must meet the minimum requirement like he must have a pass certificate of SSC i.e. senior secondary certificate from an institution located in the state Maharashtra or any other state of the country. Students from other states can also take admission in the medical courses offered by the college. At the start, Lokmanya Tilak Municipal Medical College was having fifty beds for patients at Indian Military hospital at Dharavi, however now it is popular as Sion Hospital. Conversion from Army hospital to modern hospital has been a stable progress.
Lokmanya Tilak Municipal Medical College was the first college to start Trauma Care center in India. Every year more than three thousand patients come for the treatment under the Trauma Care center. The intensive care unit (ICU) of the hospital was in the news for treating emergency cases at time of Bhopal Gar tragedy in 1985, plague treatment in 1994, and food poisoning in the year 1996. The Neonatal Intensive Care and Pediatric unit have launched latest treatment facilities for the newly born Childs. The hospital has all the resources to fight courageously with any type of crises.
