Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College, AMU, Aligarh
Jawahar Lal Nehru Medical College (JNMU) is located in the campus of Aligarh Muslim University. JNMU is an essential part of Aligarh Muslim University. In the year 1962, Indian medical council approves its MBBS degree of this university. Department of Ophthalmology of Jawahar Lal Nehru Medical College has been in existence since beginning and has already made huge name for it.
JNMU is a great medical college located at Aligarh, Uttar Pradesh, India. Aligarh Muslim University affiliates the college under Faculty of Medicine department. The establishment of medical college became possible only due to sincere efforts put by Dr. Sir Ziauddin Ahmed. Dr. Sir Ziauddin Ahmed realizes the need of a medical college for the people living at Aligarh. Former students and he worked mutually for long years for the establishment of a medical college at the University. With the combine efforts, they raised funds for the college under the guidance of Hadi Hasan who has put lot of hard work in fund raising movement.
From all parts of the country, they were able to gather about eight million rupees. On the 93th birth date of Mahatma Gandhi, the medical college finally opened for admission under MBBS programme. The first batch was having 40 students and the same volume of students continued up to 1984. However, in the year 1985 the number of students rose from 40 to 100 with no further increase up to 1995. Next academic session has seen further rise in the number of MBBS students up to 150 students as well as starting of BDS programme with 40 intake students under its first batch.
In seventies Colonel M. Tajuddin was holding the responsibility of Principal of the college. Dr. Mehmoodur Rehman who was the vice chancellor of Aligarh Muslim University at that time played a significant role in establishing Dr. Sir Ziauddin Dental College, his contribution was immense.
