Maulana Azad Medical College (MAMC) is foremost medical college located in the city, Delhi. Delhi is the capital city of India and has great national importance. The extensive campus of the college has three associated hospitals namely, the Guru Nanak Eye Centre, GB Pant Hospital and Lok Nayak Hospital. In the hospital patients from Delhi and from surrounding states of Haryana, Punjab, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh and Himachal Pradesh comes regularly for the effective and reasonable treatment.
The college is named after Maulana Abdul Kalam Azad who was a great educationist and patriot. The medical college appeared in the year 1959 with an objective to produce capable doctors, specialists and surgeons.
Since many years, Maulana Azad Medical College is continuously contributing towards national health care system by providing excellent medical services via its great hospitals to the common masses. It also provides outstanding research facility to all medical practitioners. These hospitals provide health care to more than 30000 population of Delhi through its well-organized health care system. The hospital is well equipped with latest X-ray machines and various other machines useful for treatment in emergency cases. After the Second World War, the Americans handed over the place to government of India. On 3 October 1986, MAMC celebrated its Silver jubilee. Many delegates of the country attended the ceremony conducted in the auditorium of the college. On the occasion our then President of India Giani Zail Singh was the Chief Guest. He said it is easy to become President of India but very difficult to become a doctor. Coincidently, her daughter attended the event who herself is a doctor.
Since the visit of honorable President of India, MAMC have produced many brilliant brains in the various fields of medical science. Numerous brilliant and respectable students have spread to every corner of the universe. Even today pass out doctors from the college are spreading the fragrance of the vision set by the first vice chancellor of the college.
