Institute of Medical Sciences BHU Varanasi MBBS Admission

As the name suggests, the Institute of Medical Sciences is the component unit of the Banaras Hindu University. This unit was recognized as the Ayurvedic institution way back in year 1924. The college was then converted into the Institute of Medical Sciences in 1960.

Courses offered

Institute of Medical Sciences, which is a part of the Banaras Hindu University, is providing following courses under faculties like medicine, dental sciences, ayurveda, and nursing:

Faculty of Medicine

• DM/Mch

• MBBS

• MD/MS

Faculty of Ayurveda:

• BAMS

• MD

• Ph. D in the all Ayurvedic subjects

Faculty of Dental Sciences:

• BDS

• MDS in

• Operative Dentistry

• Prosthodontics

Faculty of Nursing:

• Bachelor of Science (Nursing)

In addition to above stated courses, this college also provides different other short-term certificate and diploma courses.

Eligibility & Admission Procedure

For MBBS as well as BAMS courses, the candidates need to have completed the pre-medical or intermediate or 10+2 or correspondent courses with more than 50% aggregate marks (40% marks for the SC/ST candidates) in physics, chemistry, biology, and English. For the MD/MS courses, applicants who have finished their MBBS from the institute recognized by Medical Council of India as well as having one-year internship may apply for entrance examination. For the MDS course, applicants need to have completed the BDS course via the institution approved by the Dental Council of India as well as having one-year internship for applying for entrance examination. For entrance exam of MD/MS in the Ayurveda, the applicants must have finished their BAMS from any recognized institute. 

Infrastructural Facilities

Infrastructural facilities of institute is increased with construction of the auditorium situated just besides the institution with intention of meeting demands of providing an ambient and inspiring space for the national and international group discussions, seminars, conferences, workshops, public extension lectures, etc A hospital is also there with institution having the capability of admitting around 1200 in-patients.
